The next phase of work should includemobilizing more youth across the country to advocate for change and supporting their initiatives and leadership. As of May 2021, the Michigan state team working onthis initiative reported behavioral staff increased from 1,738 to 2,975, a 71.17% increase. During the 20202021 school year, more than 60% of college students met the criteria for at least one mental health problem, according to the Healthy Minds Study, which WebMy name is Zainab Jameel; I am a Global Mental Health Advocate, Leader, Changer, and Mental Health Law Changer. Given this data, increasing access to school-based mental health services can promote equity and reduce disparities in access to care. COVID-19 is worsening these alarming trends among youth and adolescents. It is anticipated that the total number of covered students will expand to 1.33 million once the memoranda of understanding in progress are fully executed. SEL can include both classroom curricular content and approaches to classroom management, such as rules that reinforce positive behaviors. This finding suggests that because teens themselves recognize their own mental health challenges, they may be more motivated to learn about mental health in order to increase their own ability to recognize signs and symptoms and to get help. Over 90% of schools failed to meet professional standards for school counselors. In addition, there is growing interest in the unique needs of at-risk subgroups of youth such as LGBTQ+ youth and BIPOC youth, both disproportionately impacted by health disparities. Educators have a responsibility to ensure that misinformation and ignorance dont harm their students.
